Niagara Wine TRAIN!

All Aboard! Did you have an opportunity to join the Niagara Wine Trail aboard the Medina Railroad Museum’s first trial runs of the “Wine Train?”
Throughout September passengers were invited to enjoy wine samples from various member wineries among the Niagara Wine Trail, with winery representatives available on all cars. Don poured some of Long Cliff’s finest aboard the very first train September 7th, and had so much fun that he and his brother boarded the train a few weeks later as passengers!

If you missed out, don’t fret- Word on the street is that a wine and DINNER train may be coming sometime this winter! Stay tuned, you know we’ll keep you posted…

Long Cliff LIVE from SEAsonings!

Last night Dad & I were pouring at SEAsonings, the annual March food and wine tasting fundraiser for the AQUARIUM OF NIAGARA!

Dad only gave me a 15 minute break to leave our booth, so I had to see as much as I could as fast as I could! Next year I’m gonna have to make him & Grandpa work and I’m buying a ticket for myself!

Here’s a sneak peek of what you missed out on if you weren’t able to attend! (and believe me, you’re going to want to buy your tickets early for next year, it was truly an extravaganza!) So much food, so little time… But everything I tried was delicious!

Thank you to the Aquarium for asking us to be a part of this great fundraising event! We were so glad we could attend! (and I’m already looking forward to next year!)

*Share the Bounty* & More!

This weekend, wineries along The Niagara Wine Trail are inviting you to Share the Bounty for our annual fundraising event. November 9th, 10th and 11th your tasting admission at each winery will benefit food banks, food pantries, and other charities throughout the Niagara Wine Trail region.

Here at Long Cliff, we will accept one canned food per taste, or regular tasting fees will apply. ALL tasting fees from the weekend, both cans and cash, will be donated to Sister Mary Loretto’s Community Soup Kitchen in Lockport. Help us share the bounty by not only supporting your local farmers, vineyards and wineries, but by helping us give back to the community as well! How much money can we raise?!

IN ADDITION to Share the Bounty, there’s one more celebration going on this weekend, as we commemorate our FIRST ANNIVERSARY! As a thank you to our loyal customers who have fallen in love with our wines, supported our dreams and shared our name, all of our Original Vintages will be 11.11% off this weekend only! Sweet 16

For those of you who have followed my adventures in wine tasting, you’ll be happy to know that after nearly three months, I’ve finally finished my journey, stopping at winery number 16 yesterday.

I took a day off from the tasting room and traveled with Jamison to Spring Lake Winery, where the vineyards had just been kissed by our first snowflakes of winter!! Honestly we couldn’t have picked a more perfect day!

Like our own wine list, we found that Spring Lake is (as dad always jokes) “a dry house,” and I was immediately glad that I had saved them for last. When I first started tasting the other wines on the trail, nearly anything below a 4% residual sugar wasn’t sweet enough for me- but as I’ve learned more and tasted more I’m beginning to prefer dry wines, and I don’t think I could have fully appreciated Spring Lake had I visited them back in August. Yesterday however, I’m happy to report I enjoyed everything I tasted.
We started with their unoaked Chardonnay, (slowly becoming one of my favorite wines, I’m finding) and their 2010 Estate Riesling- which was distinctly unique from all the other Rieslings I’ve tried. The last wine we tried, their semi-sweet Zia Minx was the winner of the day. While the residual sugar is low, it offered a natural sweetness, with hints of fruity cherry and raspberry. Jamison not only bought a bottle for himself, but treated me to one as well!! (and in case you’re interested in trying it too, they’re running a special on the purchase of 3 bottles this month!)

Before leaving, we started chatting about things back at Long Cliff and they asked me what our “Estate” wine was… I had never put much thought into it before, but I suddenly realized how unique we are, & felt a sense of pride in being able to say “Currently, ALL of Long Cliff’s wines are Estate Grown.” It hit me for the first time that this is something Grandpa, Dad and Uncle Rob deserve some major kudos for!! Their devotion in the vineyard is what makes my job so easy in the tasting room. The wines nearly sell themselves.

So now that I’ve sampled a little something from all 16 of the wineries on the Niagara Wine Trail, I’ll be staying put in our OWN tasting room this month, preparing for Christmas and all the excitement the holidays bring.
